For more extensive shopping, there are two supermarkets in the upper part of Canico, open daily until 22.00 hours and with a large selection of fresh fish, vegetables, fruit, etc. - or you can visit the "farmers' market" in Funchal (specially recommended Fridays and Saturdays).

Local specialties are on offer in neaby restaurants. The restaurant " Le Buffet" will spoil you with a new fish recipe every day. A typical and delicious dish is espada (Black Scabbardfish) with banana.
Poncha - made from cane sugar rum and honey and lemon - is a perfect night cup for some.
